Small Luxury Car: Cadillac ATS

One of the most important auto shows comes to us in January, the 2012 North American International Auto Show. Cadillac introduced their new smaller (yes smaller!) luxury car, 2013 ATS which is one trim level below the Cadillac CTS. The American luxury car maker is branching out into the small car market and is striving to be a top competitor.

The growth of small luxury cars has taken off and GM has taken note and started plans for a smaller concept vehicle. Several months ago they started teasing the ATS online and found that Cadillac fans were impressed with the effort being put into this new model.

"It is strategically a very important product for Cadillac," said Ed Kim, director of industry analysis at AutoPacific Inc., a Tustin automotive consulting firm. "Cadillac wants younger buyers to come into the fold, and they hope to move them up through the brand."1

The ATS has a new 2-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 270 horsepower. There are also reports of a normally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6 option for the ATS.

Other car makers are selling thousands of small vehicles every year and Cadillac is on the right track to keep up! The 2013 ATS will be available at Handy Buick GMC Cadillac in Saint Albans, VT later this year!
